Cindy Sherman Comes Clean About Aging

Cindy Sherman Comes Clean About Aging

I love this new Cindy Sherman exhibit, on now at Hauser and Wirth’s SoHo gallery. It is a poignant realistic view of how many of us see ourselves during the aging process.

I love how she has mixed media from different collections and periods to create multiple stories within one portrait, exactly as many of us may feel our faces now appear when looking back at us.  "Where did that line come from beside my eyebrow above my nose"?, "Whose forehead is that as mine had no permanent features last week?", we ask ourselves.

Featured image:  Sherman, “Untitled #661,” 2023. Gelatin silver print and chromogenic color print. Sherman said, “It’s almost a little too narrative. Maybe she’s just stepped out of the shower or is going to a spa.”Credit...via Cindy Sherman and Hauser & Wirth
